- With this initiative, the dairy brand is planning ahead for the new Waste Act that will come into force in July 2024.
Central Lechera Asturiana continues to be committed to caring for the natural environment and has therefore developed an innovation that promotes the circular economy and that also anticipates the new Waste Act that will come into force in July 2024. In this case, it is the launch of a new cap that is attached to its milk cartons to prevent them from getting lost and thus contributing to their recycling process.
This new cap also reduces the amount of plastic by 13% compared to the previous one, further minimising the impact of the packaging on the environment. Thanks to this measure, plastic waste and emissions will be reduced by facilitating the recycling of single-use packaging.
This new system, which will be implemented on all varieties, allows for better pouring during serving.
It is quite simple to use. To open the cap, just turn it to the right, lift it, then pour the milk into the recipient. Closing is even simpler; just gently press the cap until you hear a “click” that will guarantee its closure until the next time it is used. To reopen it, repeat the operation.
Carbon neutral carton
In March, Central Lechera Asturiana launched its new carbon-neutral carton certified by AENOR, thereby reducing the impact of its packaging and assuming the commitment to offset emissions that cannot be avoided. A series of measures have been implemented in order to achieve this milestone, working together with suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint on packaging, incorporating renewable energies, more efficient technologies and more sustainable materials in processes and products.
In 2020, the dairy company was the first to have a certified circular economy strategy, the first zero-waste dairy company in all its factories and also the first Spanish carbon-neutral company in all its factories (scope 1+2) certified in the three areas by AENOR.
In June 2020, it also became the first Spanish dairy company to obtain B CORP certification, which endorses the transforming power of the company’s way of working and which, supported by its triple impact plan, enables it to fulfil its objective of generating a positive impact through its activity, taking the communities that are part of its value chain in decision-making into account.
